The mismanagement at post-harvest leads to 45% loss in fruits, vegetables and tubers (FVT) raising social, economical and environmental concerns. India annually produces fruits and vegetables of the value of about ₹7000 crores and wastage may be

of the order of ₹2100 crores. This is a huge loss of valuable food even when the minimum food requirement of the population is not met.

Globally, waterborne diseases are responsible for 2 million deaths each year, with the majority occurring in children under 5. The world health organization (WHO) estimates that one tenth of the global disease burden can be achieved by improving water sanitation and hygiene.

Hand hygiene is the most overlooked phenomenon in all industries including healthcare, food and hospitality.

The main reasons are

Unawareness of low compliance rates

Lack of time

Voluntary nature of the process

Rise in hand hygiene expenditure due to overuse

Lack of surveillance.
